There are now even more passengers now using the Severn Beach Line and local services between Stapleton Road, Lawrence Hill and Temple Meads. Recent figures published in Severnside Community Rail Partnership's Progress Report reveal that over 505,000 passenger journeys were made on the Severn Beach Line in 2008, representing an increase in patronage exceeding 30%. The increase follows the introduction of a more frequent and more reliable service on the Severn Beach Line in May 2008.
More local and regional services calling at Stapleton Road and Lawrence Hill, providing direct trains to Filton Abbey Wood & Parkway also trebled the number of users of non-Severn Beach Line services at these stations. A passenger count in November 2008 revealed that 5,000 people use the local stations between Temple Meads and Severn Beach every weekday.
Station improvements including a station garden at Shirehampton and better signage have been carried out and the old station building at Redland has been repainted. In the next year, live passenger information will start to appear at local stations thanks to a grant from Local Authorities and the Department for Transport.
